New MinBC chair vows unity

DAVAO CITY (MindaNews/22 July) — Newly-elected Mindanao Business Council chair Vicente Lao said he saw no reason why Mindanao’s business community should not be united amidst reports the Davao City Chamber of Commerce and Industry is talking peace with the Philippine Chamber of Commerce and Industry.

He said the council should be there to represent the interest of Mindanao’s business community.

Lao told MindaNews at the sidelines of the Fifth Davao City Business Conference Friday that efforts to reconcile differences should be welcomed.

PCCI drew flak for reportedly causing a unilateral reorganization of business chamber regions in Mindanao in October and thereafter facilitated elections of new sets of officers.

The decision triggered the bolting of DCCCII from the national chamber and the mass resignation of PCCI governors in Mindanao, including then PCCI vice president Romeo Serra.
