Labor leader tags ‘slay attempt’ to government’s war agenda

A labor leader here who was among the so–called “Davao 8” accused of rebellion in February has blamed the government for an attempt on his life on September 12.

No other institution has the capacity, the motivation, and the means for political killings, said Omar Bantayan, secretary-general of the Kilusang Mayo Uno (May First Movement) in Southern Mindanao. Bantayan said the frequent sighting of armed men by the gate of his residence this week showed he is not only being harassed and under surveillance.

“They are ought to kill me. I’m a dead man walking,” Omar said in an interview with MindaNews Thursday.

Bantayan alleged the military is behind the alleged slay attempt. “The government and the military have dragged civilian militant groups like KMU into its all-out war with the communist rebels,” he said.[TO BE UPDATED]
