Impasse just a ‘process problem,’ Dureza assures traders

DAVAO CITY (MindaNews/5 Oct) — The impasse is just a “process
problem” and there is no breakdown of talks between the government and
the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF), Secretary Jesus Dureza told
businessmen from around the country Thursday.

Dureza, presidential assistant on the peace process, assured that both
the government and the MILF do not want to go to war anymore.

“Both panels are finding a way out (of the impasse) because they are
sincere in the peace process,” he said.

Dureza was asked to speak on housing prospects in East Asia Growth
Area (EAGA) development at the National Developers Convention here on
Oct. 5.

He explained to reporters after his speech that both panels have
ongoing discussions to “move forward”.

Dureza refused to give details on how negotiations have progressed.

He cited three reasons why he is confident the impasse will not lead
to war. He said both the government and the MILF have observed the
ceasefire agreement. (Read story here).
