Mandatory drug education eyed in Davao City grade schools

DAVAO CITY (MindaNews/22 October) – Mayor Rodrigo Duterte announced a plan to include anti-illegal drugs education in the curriculum of grade schools here as part of the city’s “supply and market reduction” drive to curb what he earlier admitted to be a difficult problem. “It is good to start teaching them about it at an early age,” Duterte said Sunday at the city government’s television program “Gikan sa masa, para sa Masa” (From the masses, to the masses) aired over ABS-CBN Southern Mindanao.

“Drugs seem to be the cause of all the problems (in Davao) that’s why drugs education must start at an early age,” he told Sonshine TV network Friday. He said the youth must know the pitfalls of drugs from the start.

The mayor however did not yet elaborate how the mandatory drugs education would be carried out in both public and private schools or if it has already been consulted with the Department of Education. Read full story here.
