U.N. human rights investigator in Davao

Philip Alston, United Nations Rapporteur on Human Rights, is in town Sunday to probe summary killings in Mindanao. Alston is in the country for a 10-day official visit.

His visit has been viewed as an intervention on domestic affairs of the country by a senator.

Alston will meet with government security officials and human rights groups.

The military has warned against a plot to hold a huge rally in time for the visit. The militant groups, however, denied planning it.

They said there will be no need to protest since Alston will be meeting them. Read full report here.
