A rescue team composed of international and local peace keepers has reached a madrasah in Midsayap town where 500 families were trapped when intense
fighting broke out between the Philippine military and the Moro Islamic Liberation Front late Monday night. Read the story here.
Rexall Kaalim, Bantay Ceasefire coordinator said they found the families visibly shaken after spending a harrowing night inside a Madrasah to escape the deadly exchange of artillery and mortar fire from the soldiers and rebels.
Lt. Col. Joselito Ando, spokesperson of the Army’s 6th Infantry Division, said they found 17 bodies of MILF attackers this morning near two Army detachments in barangays Lumupog and Kadigasan.
He said a soldier was also killed while two others were wounded when an estimated 300 rebels belonging to the MILF 105th Brigade launched simultaneous attacked two Army detachments around 10 p.m. Monday.
Earlier, over radio DXMS in Cotabato City, Lt. Regie Bernardino, spokesperson of the Army’s 602nd Infantry Brigade, said the fighting left six people dead, two of them Army soldiers, and more than 10 wounded.
He said two of their soldiers were killed and four others were wounded when hit by mortar fire coming from the attackers.
