Ilagan among Davao’s Datu Bago awardees
DAVAO CITY – (MindaNews) Feminist leader and former Davao City Councilor Luzviminda Ilagan is among this year’s recipients of the Datu Bago Award, which will be conferred tonight at the Grand Men Seng Hotel here.
The Datu Bago Award is this city’s way of honoring individuals who have contributed to the development of the city with exemplary endeavors and dedication and who best serve as models of excellence and as an inspiration to residents.
According to a press statement issued by the Mindanao Working Group of Reproductive Health, Gender and Sexuality of the Ateneo de Davao University (ADDU), Ilagan “is more than worthy to be recognized” because of her achievements in various fields.
“As a former city councilor, her voice echoed in the hallowed halls of the Sanggunian as she championed the rights of women through her legislation,” the statement said.
Ilagan, who once taught at ADDU, also served as a community trainer on such issues as gender sensitivity, violence against women and children, and family health care.
She is currently the national chairperson of the Gabriela Women’s Party and was just nominated as its second nominee for the party-list elections.
