OPAPP: More need for LGUs in peace process

Local governments must shift focus from merely looking at “peace and order” concerns in their area but on making peace-buidling an institutional part of governance, Peace Process
Undersecretary Nabil Tan told the National Conference on experiences of LGUs
on peace work here Thursday.

Tan gave the keynote speech at the National Conference on experiences of LGUs on peace work here Thursday. 

He said the work for peace is not just about the (national) government and the rebels talking. He said local governments must elevate focus from merely looking at “peace and order” concerns.   

He said peace building mechanisms has to be intact from beginning in policy, as in the local development plan.

He said with local governments active participation, the national governments effort for peace process and reform initiatives would be more responsive to the needs on the ground.
