Ateneo de Davao faculty to hold certification election

DAVAO CITY (MindaNews/28 March) — The College Faculty Union of Ateneo de
Davao University (CFU-AdDU) will hold its Certification Election (CE) on
Thursday, March 29, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

If CFU-AdDU wins, it will become the “sole and exclusive bargaining agent” of
Ateneo college faculty in the Jacinto campus. The non-teaching staff and the
grade school faculty are each represented by existing unions with whom
CFU-AdDU promises to work for the betterment of the Ateneo community, CFU-AdDU
president Neil Ryan Pancho said.

The CFU-AdDU received its Certificate of Recognition from the Department of
Labor and Employment in October 2005. It was supposed to hold a certification
election but Ateneo management reportedly blocked its application in April 26,
Pancho said in a press statement.

With the DOLE recognition of CFU-AdDU, college teachers will now have their
own representative at the bargaining table, Pancho said.

“We aim to look into concerns, such as hiring rates, the rank and promotion
system, and an incentive system for excellent teachers,” he added.

Pancho called on “college teachers, both regular and probationary, and program
coordinators, directors, and level heads to vote in the certification election
on 29 March 2007.” (MindaNews)
