The Acostas: Bukidnon’s ‘non-traditional’ dynasty – PCIJ report

Going home to Bukidnon last weekend I heard news of Bukidnon 1st district Rep. Neric Acosta’s intention to gun for provincial governor. If so, he will meet head on with last-termer Gov. Jose Ma. R. Zubiri, Jr.

Neric’s mom, Socorro or Coring to many, will run for Congress to replace her son who is finishing his last term. Liberal Party at one point floated the younger Acosta as one of its senatoriables.

Most of Bukidnon is Zubiri country, even if they are from the southern part of the province (third district).

All mayors, except for two, are Zubiri’s allies. The two: Acosta and Valencia City Mayor Jose M. Galario, Jr. , who got a tiff with the government last year.

It is not a surprise to see an article about the Acostas at the Philippine Center for Investigative Journalism’s features on new political dynasties.

Read the article here. Read more of the legislative districts’ representation in Bukidnon since the Aquino administration here.

  1. Maria Jose says :

Nereus would fare well as a Senator. However, he has a very long shot of winning. I do hope he becomes a Senator someday. We need more legislators like him.
