Ombudsman hits indifference: nixing anti-corruption drive

DAVAO CITY – Deputy Ombudsman for Mindanao Humprey Monteroso cited a general indifference to stand as witnesses against government officials and employees as a major cause why cases filed against them do not prosper.

Monteroso said would be witnesses stop in airing out complaints, refusing to take the witness stand even if the government has assured they will be covered with the witness protection program, even immunity for possible liability in the offense, too.

He said such problem haunted the government’s anti corruption drive as a major hindrance to the prosecution of graft cases.
