Davao City is still Duterte country
DAVAO CITY – As expected, Mayor Rodrigo Duterte’s Hugpong sa Tawong Lungsod is assured of election according to the latest quick count partial and unofficial results from Namfrel. Duterte is a supporter of President Arroyo and has campaigned for 12-0 for the Team Unity.
Duterte is assured of reelection and his daughter, Sara of election as the city’s first lady vice mayor with wide margins.
Both running against political unknowns, Duterte got 135, 364 votes with the next in rank Teodoro Mantilla with 722, who led three other candidates, according to the Namfrel quick count update as of 9a.m. Thursday. Sara got 115, 601 votes, way ahead of only rival Jeff Ho with 17, 646.
Duterte’s bets for Congress are also ahead of their opponents including House Majority Floor Leader Prospero Nograles of the first district, who had a tiff with Duterte shortly before elections.
Re-electionist Rep. Vincent Garcia (16, 654) is ahead of closest rival in the second district Jimmy Dureza (10, 660), brother of Peace Process Presidential Adviser Jesus Dureza.
In the third district, former city councilor Isidro Ungab (12,383), Duterte’s bet, is ahead of closest rival city councilor Rene Elias Lopez (8,265), brother of three-termer Rep. Ruy Elias Lopez. The third district has been a bailiwick of the Lopezes.
Former mayor Benjamin de Guzman is trailing at third (5, 322).
Most of Hugpong’s bets for councilors are also in the Magic 8 in the three districts.
But the support given by Dabawenyos to the Hugpong slate did not translate to votes for the administration party Team Unity candidates.
Duterte said he did his job in campaigning for TU “but they (administration party) know it’s going to be hard to get that (12-0) here”.
Duterte mentioned a barangay where there was a 12-0 vote in favor of Team Unity but it was a remote barangay, he said.
Duterte said the party can blame Lakas stalwart Davao City 1st District Majority Floor Leader Prospero Nograles.
Duterte and Nograles had a falling out over the latter’s supposed failure to deliver commitments of support to the local campaign despite a prior agreement.
Duterte said they are not in a quarrel but has earlier indicated the end of their political alliance.
As of Thursday 9a.m. Genuine Opposition bets dominate the Magic 12 based on the partian and unofficial results from Namfrel.
There are eight bets from GO, two from Team Unity and two independent bets in the top 12.
Francis Escudero is leading (99, 627) in the Namfrel count covering 1,335 out of 3, 385 precincts or 39.44 percent of the total number of precincts.
