What an unfortunate news. The problem there must be really so immense!

According to this inquirer.net report from Manila, Elections Commissioner Rene Sarniento, citing health reasons, will resign as head of Task Force Maguindanao, which has been formed to investigate allegations of poll irregularities in the province.

Commissioner Nicodemo Ferrer will replace Sarmiento and assume the post on Wednesday, said Commission on Elections Chairman Benjamin Abalos in a press conference.

At the same time, Abalos assured the public that that the investigation in Maguindanao would push through.

Abalos dispelled rumors that Sarmiento was being eased out as head of the task force.

“He told me that the pressure is making him sick,” said Abalos.

“It’s purely because of health reasons,” Sarmiento told the Philippine Daily Inquirer, parent company of INQUIRER.net in Mindanao after supervising the special elections that were held in 13 towns in Lanao del Sur province on Saturday and Sunday.
