Just a phone call away?

This may come a bit late after it actually happened —but come to think of it enemies exchanging phone numbers? Of course, not to threaten one another but probably to coordinate in case hostilities arise or to actually prevent them from arising.

Also, the parties to the conflict need not be called enemies at all?

AFP commanders to MILF: celfone numbers, please?

DAVAO CITY (MindaNews/10 June) — The presentations and discussions at the 1st AFP-BIAF Roundtable Discussion in Cotabato City last Saturday, centered on the primacy of the peace process between the Philippine government and the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF). There were no questions but a recommendation from a military officer that they be given mobile phone numbers of the rebel counterparts on the ground.

The suggestion, said Fr. Roberto Layson, head of the Oblates of Mary Immaculate’s Inter-Religious Dialogue, was intended to “enhance coordination” so that they can call the other to verify from each other.  “They will be textmates. Something like that.” Layson said.
